Homeade healthy balanced dog food?
My dog is a healthy and happy 60 pounds 3-1/2 year old Husky mix. He is very active, but there is one Problem. He does not like dog food. I have long treated his whole life to be with this, try almost any dog food, I have discussed a number of veterinarians, tried their approach, but it does not know what my dog to starve themselves until hes really hungry and has no other choice but to eat it. I'm looking for a sound (to make affordable) balanced dog food recipes to complement at least one feeding a day looking. Nothing weird like your Fish Oil etc, I think, He has a bit of a sensitive stomach. A vet suggested homemade here, so I know most of the decline, but that's where I am now. Thank you for your help!
I actually make all my dog food. I have a 17 pounds, very healthy (all muscle groups, "says the vet) Bichon Frise. Obviously, my Dog is smaller, then fed it all is less expensive than home-made, it would be larger for a dog. Here is a version of what I do: beef and barley Doggie Stew Ingredients: 3 pounds ground beef 1 qt beef stock (low salt / salt No variety) 1 cup barley (uncooked) 2-3 sweet potatoes (depending on size), 4-6 carrots (depending on size) 1 large (I think its 24 ounces) can be added to the cubes, stewed tomatoes (low salt / no salt) 1 small head red cabbage Olive Oil / Oil Directions: 1 Cook barley according to the instructions on the package, set aside. 2nd In a large soup pot, add a few tablespoons of the oil and brown ground beef, stirring often to break up into small pieces 3. While the meat is cooking, the carrots, sweet potatoes and chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces – bite-sized depends on the size of your dog! 4th Once the meat is cooked (not red), add the beef broth liter and canned tomatoes 5th bring Bring to a boil 6th Add the carrots and sweet potatoes to boil, reduce and allow to simmer for 20 minutes 7 After the 20 minutes, add the cabbage and boiled Barley. Remove from the heat and a good combination. This makes about four liters doggie stew. What I do is freeze 3 QTS and hold 1QT in the fridge. I feed my dog 1/2C £ 17. For breakfast and a 1/2C. for dinner, so my quart lasts usually about five days. For your dog, you need the right amount per Meal figure, but I would say estimate 1/2C. £ 20 per dog. If you prefer, you can supplement with a high quality fodder and feed stew less per meal. Good luck!
