Is vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) FDA approved for Crohn's?

New studies confirm that vitamin D is a powerful immune modulator and a promising future in autoimmune diseases of Crohn's, but it is FDA approved?

Technically, the FDA does not approve or deny any supplements aside from the general vitamins and minerals (those with an RDA), so they are not "approve". Vitamin D is recommended for daily use (because it is a RDA) and the FDA and doctors usually recommend a multivitamin with vitamin D, but it is not "approved to treat Crohn's Disease" for the FDA will not approve any supplement to treat any disease or illness (there are many theories on why, but I will not get into that). But if it is "FDA denied (eg contaminated product, the bottle does not contain the right product, etc.), it is removed from the market and / or the companies doing so will get of shuts down. It's already happened a number of times … One of the biggest cases I think it was when they banned Tryptophan for around a decade due to a contaminated batch that some people died from. Long been banned due to misinformation about it and come up slightly from the media coverage spread that got some people thinking that it was the addition, the company. With all that being said, there really is watchgroups and organizations to regulate supplements and regular report to the FDA for any major conflict reactions (and supplement companies that sell them should report as well). The GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and USP (U.S. pharmacopoeia) are the main quality assurance organizations (USP is for us, GMP is for the U.S. and around the world). The best thing you can do when purchasing a supplement from a company is call the company and ask them to prove their quality. No, just ask if they have good quality, but ask them to prove it. Their products must be tested / reviewed by independent companies 3nd party to prove their quality and they should be able to prove it rather easily. If they can not prove it, I do not use their products … It is your responsibility to know what your purchase and to ensure that the company you are getting it from the good. Good luck and I hope I helped!
